Karl's Plaques began as one of my ideas. I have had many ideas over the years, but unlike those ideas before, I had a loving and caring wife to share this particular one with. This idea was special. It combined things that I enjoyed, creating works of art, and encouraging people to keep doing their best. The love of my life saw my passion and the potential, she never let me forget that idea. She encouraged me to spend our nest egg on all the equipment and supplies needed to begin the trek to business ownership. She gave me the drive to attend business workshops, to complete the paperwork, and continued to encourage me when times looked bleak. I create awards to fit any customer’s needs, but my greatest enjoyment is creating awards that recognize the true spirit and devotion of men and women who serve our great country. I am an Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM veteran, and participant in numerous endeavors to include Operation ALLIED FORCE, Operation RESTORE HOPE, Operation SUPPORT HOPE, and Operation INTRINSIC ACTION to name a few. We had originally scheduled Karl's Plaques to go online and begin supplying quality recognition awards on January 1, 2011. Unfortunately, our plans changed. The day after Thanksgiving 2010, I took my wife to an urgent care clinic due to abdominal pains she had been having. We were referred to a regional hospital, followed by a university medical center. That was the first day the dragon, LeioMyoSarcoma, reared its ugly head. I stayed by her bedside constantly for almost two months as we rode a rollercoaster of emotions. I witnessed her fight the evil beast and suffer from pain that cannot be described or forgotten. This dragon was too strong and mysterious. On January 16, 2011, I held her hand as she took her final breath. Just thirty four years into her beautiful life. Leaving me, our son, and the wonderful home she created behind. The name Karl's Plaques was her idea and Karl's Plaques continues as a tribute to her. If not for her encouragement and devotion to me, we would not exist today.
